At Gates By Design, we can create any gate. Our skilled engineers and craftsman can work from your drawings, a photo, or just an idea you have.
Gates by Design utilizes a state of the art CAD system. The production process for Gates by Design products begins with a conceptual design developed with the customer which is then converted to a shop drawing. The shop drawing provides all dimensional information as well as the gate frame design, type of inset cast panels and all additional hardware including hinges, side frames, latches, handles, ground anchors and any required additional components for operator connection. This shop drawing is then sent to the factory where gate fabrication begins.
The castings are then selected by the factory and the number of required panel elements are cast. At the same time the perimeter frame is carefully cut to size, assembled and welded. The cast inset panels are then welded into the perimeter aluminum frame. The welds are carefully hand ground and sanded. All perimeter hardware is finally added including hinges, latches, handles and ground anchors.
A quality control engineer inspects each project at every step of production for compliance with the shop drawing. Once the gate is fully assembled, it is prepped and cleaned for a factory-applied, four-coat acrylic paint finish. After the paint cures, the gate or fence panel is carefully wrapped and packed into crates for container shipment to the Exquisite Gate Co. warehouse in Phoenix, Arizona. Upon final inspection, the gate or fence panels are forwarded to their final destination.
CAD Engineers, fine tunes a gate design before forwarding it to the factory.
1. Molten aluminum is poured in to molds.
2. Grinding adds a smooth touch.
3. Filing work catches all the small details.
4. Sanding is done just before painting.
5. Painting gates to exact specs is not a tall order.
6. An on-site installation of a large fencing job.
Gates by Design utilizes commercial grade aluminum to manufacture every cast aluminum components and structural grade 6063 aluminum to manufacture each of the extruded frame components. All other elements including hinges, latches and dead bolts, ground anchors and rollers are designed and engineered to minimize maintenance costs and minimize or eliminate rust or corrosion concerns by using stainless steel or galvanized metal components.
The gate or fence sections are carefully hand prepped and pre-finished with a factory applied four-coat acrylic paint available in a wide range of colors as well as faux finishes in Antique Bronze or Antique Patina Green. Metallic paint finishes are available in bronze, gun metal gray, blue and green with custom colors available on request.
Perimeter frames are made with heavy-duty, extruded 6063 aluminum profiles. The standard frame used on most driveway gates, garden and courtyard gates measures approximately 1.5” x 3”. Other frame sizes are available upon request. Each gate frame comes hinged with a latch (dead-bolt if requested), a ground anchor and any required attachment plates for powered equipment properly secured to the frame.
Gates by Design can provide side frames for gate mounting that are directly bolted to the gate opening. An extruded trim strip is available to use with side frames for finishing out gate openings that are out of vertical alignment. This aluminum extruded trim strip allows for adjustments up to 3/4” on either side of the gate opening. Trim strips are provided pre-finished in a fourcoat acrylic to match the gate finish.
The Gates by Design gate hinge system consists of a stainless steel pin-and-barrel hinge with grease port and ball bearing load point. Hinges are available in 2” and 1.5” diameters. Depending on gate size and weight, hinges are engineered to a maximum 600 lb. load per hinge. Hinges are welded to a galvanized steel bracket secured to the aluminum extruded frame by four 1/4” steel rivet pins. Brackets and hinges come pre-finished to match the gate paint finish.
Gates by Design can provide pricing and specifications on powered operators and controls for hinged gates, rolling gates and electronic strikes for garden and courtyard gates. Installation services for powered equipment and controls are provided by certified, experienced automated gate equipment installers.
